Charter Communications' cable brand Spectrum has debuted its latest monster-themed ad, this time riding the back-to-school wave with a tale about werewolf parents.

The monsters have made for a memorable approach to competitive advertising.  As directed by black comedy specialist David Shane of O Positive, the spot continues to bring character-driven flair and humor that will make you laugh rather than wince.

The campaign for the Charter Communications brand sees the Grim Reaper, the Werewolf, the Mummy and a mad scientist on the train commute back to the burbs, dishing nonchalantly about their weekend plans like everyday Joes.  The Werewolf, for example, plans on "Just a lot of howling, a bit of me time," the scientist will be working on his death ray, while the Mummy, who has an oddly Draculean accent, will be "summoning the Apocalypse" and bringing the orange slices to his twins' soccer game.  Read more

Something Different Teams With Station Film For Documentary “SEED”

SEED, a new documentary feature available on Amazon Prime Video (Kinonation is handling distribution), takes viewers behind the scenes of AngelHack’s 9th annual Global Demo Day as tech innovators from around the world compete for seed money to turn their ideas into reality.

Directed by Andrew Wonder and produced by Something Different and Station Film, the film follows three Silicon Valley high school students, five college students from Nairobi and an Uber driver from New York as they hone their pitches and eventually present them to a panel of venture capitalists and industry leaders.  Read more

Former Ogilvy & Mather Executive Creative Director Tommy Henvey and Executive Producer Patti McConnell have launched the new agency Something Different in Brooklyn, N.Y.  During eight years at Ogilvy, Henvey ran accounts for Time Warner Cable, Kraft, Nascar and Citizens Bank. Prior to that, he was a group creative director at Mcgarry Bowen, Young & Rubicam and BBDO.  McConnell's tenure at Ogilvy began in 2001 and included work for Coca-Cola, Qualcomm and American Express.  Read more
